Что пьют в России? | What do Russians drink?

Updated: Nov 27, 2019

Almost everybody knows that tea and vodka are the most popular drinks in Russia. However, not too many people are familiar with a variety of delicious non-alcoholic drinks Russia has to offer. Here is a list of some traditional Russian drinks you might not even know about. Have you tried any of them?

КВАС

Kvas is a mildly sweet drink made from fermented dark rye bread; it is basically a non-alcoholic beer. МОРС

Mors is a sweet juice-like traditional drink made from fermented lingonberries or cranberries. РЯЖЕНКА

Ryazhenka is a delicious drink that resembles drinkable yoghurt in texture. It’s a fermented drink made from slow-boiled ("baked") milk “toplyonoe moloko”. The process is similar to how condensed milk is made but the result is quite different. It doesn’t really resemble milk at all – nor yoghurt – but it is definitely delicious. КИСЕЛЬ

Kissel is made from berries or other fruit. It can be jelly-like or drinkable. БЕРЁЗОВЫЙ СОК

Birch sap is a characteristic drink, extracted from a birch tree; it has a distinctive sweet flavor with a slightly bitter herbal aftertaste. КЕФИР

Kefir is a fermented milk; it slightly resembles drinkable yoghurt. КОМПОТ

Kompot is a clear juice obtained by cooking fruit in a large volume of water.

Have you ever tried any of these drinks? What did you like and what you didn't? Вы когда-нибудь пробовали такие напитки? Ну и как? Что вам понравилось, а что нет?
