When you become a student of Russian, you might be curious what to do with your non-Russian name. Here are some suggestions on how to “russify” your name.

 

1) You can cyrillicize your name according to common standards:

  • Davis- Дэвис

  • Zoe - Зоуи

  • Brian - Брайан

  • Kevin- Кевин

  • Michael – Майкл

  • David – Дэйвид

 

2) You can adopt a Russian name or the Russian version of your name if it exists.

  • Anthony – Антон

  • Johnathan – Иван

  • Darian – Дарья

  • Catherine – Катя

  • Michael – Миша

  • Samuel – Самуил

  • Jacob – Яков

  • Christine – Кристина

  • Alex – Саша

  • Zoe – Зоя

3)  You can try to preserve as closely as possible the sound of the name from the original language.

4) You can try to approximate the spelling of the form in the original language.
